- A straightforward two group design, or more complex designs such as cross-over, stepped wedge, factorial, or others
- Control recruitment
- Randomisation which is a ‘cornerstone’ of the trial design
- Blinding, allocation concealment
- Analysis protocol
These may also need a study of the feasibility of the trial.
